Op. 2, No. 15

Composer Notes

As full of loss as Op. 2, No. 14 is, this prelude is bursting with joy and hope! The rising and falling swells in the left hand reflect the sun coming up over the ocean waves, lapping at the shore. A majestic eagle takes to the sky, witnessing the glory of a new day, reveling in the wind beneath its wings as it soars through the air and eventually setting off toward the horizon as the piece comes to a close. From a technique standpoint, there is a great deal of crossing of hands requiring an almost ballet-like choreography between the hands.
