Op. 2, No. 11

Composer Notes

As I began writing this prelude, I had the image of a dance at a grand palace ball in my head. But there is something slightly off about this danceā€¦as if it takes place in a dream where the music is heard through the prism of delirium. The cause of the madness is unclear, but is ever-present through the chromatic scales weaving around the melody. Finally, the dance comes to a close as the music slows, like a spinning wheel gradually coming to a halt.
